2nd Annual Mongolia Business Summit, June 18-20
Initiated in 2014 by entrepreneurs, and supported by the Government of Mongolia, the Summit serves as the unique platform for multi-stakeholders’ discussions on the investment, trade and business environment of Mongolia with the focus on business development expansion and establishing networks in Mongolia.
Why should you attend?
· Big breakthrough on moving forward on Oyu Tolgoi underground mine. Mongolia and Rio Tinto agree $5bn Oyu Tolgoi mine expansion
· Offer of $1bln credit line for Mongolia announced during Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s visit.
Construction, real estate, infrastructure, tourism and mining are among a number of sectors at the core of the agenda, and the participants of the Summit will be also provided with the exclusive opportunity to observe the development projects of Mongolia on site.
Economic Performance
Regardless of a substantial increase in mining output, growth in Mongolia’s gross domestic product (GDP) slowed to 7.8% in 2014 from 11.6% in 2013. As value added in mining increased by 24.2%, reflecting the first full year of production at the vast Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine, industrial production expanded by 16.1% and contributed 4.8 percentage points to GDP growth. This came in spite of a 16.3% drop in coal production.
Agriculture remained a driver of growth, rising by 14.4% with favorable weather. Agriculture and services each contributed 1.5 percentage points to GDP growth, while the contribution from industry other than mining was negligible.*
Even with declining GDP growth from previous years, robust growth is expected in agriculture and in mining sector due to expanded extraction at Oyu Tolgoi in 2015.
