Rio Tinto Copper names Bold Baatar new  president, International Operations
April 24 (Oyu Tolgoi) Rio Tinto has appointed Bold  Baatar as President, International Operations, of its Copper group effective  from June 3. Bold Baatar, a native Mongolian who has served as an advisor  to Rio for the past three years, will be based in London. Bold comes to  Rio Tinto from Golden East LLC, a gold exploration and mining company.
Rio Tinto Copper chief executive Jean-Sebastian  Jacques said, “Bold Baatar will be a strong addition to our Copper  product group.
“His role will be to ensure safe and efficient  operations at projects and sites in Australia, South Africa, Papua New Guinea,  Indonesia, Alaska; oversee specific divestments within the Copper group,  and help to consolidate the Copper portfolio. In addition, he will establish  strong partnerships between Copper International Operations and our service and  support functions and will be the catalyst for constructive interactions with  Rio Tinto group functions.”
Bold Baatar said, “I am very pleased to be  joining Rio Tinto, one of the world’s foremost mining organizations.
“I have been fortunate to serve as an advisor to  Rio Tinto, and thus have observed the company’s operations in Mongolia  through its development of Oyu Tolgoi. I am looking forward to being part of  its international operations.”
Prior to Golden East (Altan Dornod Mongolia),  Bold Baatar was CEO of Newcom, where he managed and built a diverse  investment portfolio across telecom, airlines, property management, mining  services and renewable energy. Previously, he held senior-level positions with JP  Morgan in London, Moscow and New York, where he acquired extensive  experience in the mergers, acquisitions and divestment arena.
Rio Tinto Mongolia country director  and president and chief executive of Oyu Tolgoi, Cameron McRae said,  “Bold’s appointment is also positive news for Mongolia and its  mining industry.
“As a respected business and civic leader, his  advice often is sought by government, industry and civil society organisations  as they work to balance a business-friendly investment environment with  protecting Mongolia’s interests.”
Bold Baatar is Chair of the Mongolian Mining  Association Board and a member of the Executive Board of Business  Council of Mongolia. A native Mongolian, Bold Baatar holds a Bachelor of  Industrial Engineering degree from Mongolian Technical University and a  Masters of Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport in  Connecticut, US.
